Connecting Body and Mind

Something as elemental as taking flight on a swing is just as essential in Shore students’ daily schedules as lunch—or language arts. From our youngest to our oldest children, unstructured playtime is time for connecting body and mind, time for socializing and sharing, time for refueling, time for being. Organized activities such as team sports and physical education emphasize critical character skills that serve a role all day. Special occasions—parades, field days, outdoor festivals, and surprise dismissals—are more like all-school playdates, where boundless energy and giddy laughter are glue that forms lasting bonds within our community. Fun isn’t just for students; teachers also know—and studies have proven—that play is for all of us.
